Stay Woke/ Agony in the Garden
“The Agony in the Garden” is an early painting by the Italian Renaissance master Giovanni Bellini who painted it around 1459-65.
It portrays Christ kneeling on the Mount of Olives in prayer, with his disciples Peter, James and John sleeping near him.”(reference Wikipedia). They were supposed to be praying with him not sleeping.
The figure stands in front of a cropped un-stretched reproduction of the Bellini painting. The words, “Stay Woke" are stenciled like a political banner.
“Woke” is a political term of African American origin referring to a perceived awareness of issues concerning social justice and racial justice. “Stay Woke” refers to a continuing awareness of these issues.
Urban Dictionary defines “Stay Woke”, “as to stay awake. ...to stay woke is to keep informed of the sh*tstorm going on around you....and to be aware of the heavily filtered media”
This term has fallen into cynical usage in the media, whereby to be” woke” is to be newly aware of social issues and act in a naïve but sympathetic manner regarding those issues.
The lamb and goat are Biblical symbols of Judgment Day when the two are separated into the separate destinies of Heaven and Hell.
